Once described as ‘one of the most sought after talents in the Bundesliga’, Levin Oztunali has had to take a step back to make a giant leap forward in his nascent career.
He made his senior debut for Bayer Leverkusen before spending 18 months on loan at Werder Bremen. After impressing there it was assumed that he would play for the chemical conglomerate-backed German side, but instead he signed a five-year deal with Mainz.
Not to worry. He has shown his talent this season, laying on five assists in 20 games to help Mainz climb to an impressive 12th in the Bundesliga. More football will only help the 21-year-old out. He can go far.
