John Stones has got big 'balls', according to Pep Guardiola. What he also has is a huge dollop of talent to go along with that.

A big money move was always going to come last summer for Stones. He chose Manchester as his destination.

There have been doubts over whether Guardiola is the best manager for him, whether he is the best person to refine his, at times, questionable defending.

But it's easy to forget Guardiola oversaw Gerard Pique's development into a top class defender and a World Cup winner. There is reason to believe he could do the same for the England international.

Stones has become the glue that holds together City's ramshackle defence this season.

Having such a burden on his shoulders already is not ideal, but it should force his improvement as a player. He's already excellent. What comes next could be sensational.
